02s MAKE IMPRESSIVE DEBUT AT BURY FRIENDLY
21/06/2009
6 members of the Academy's 2002 born Elite Development Squad competed in the 6/7 years category at the Bury Friendly Novice competition today.
The standard in this youngest category was very high with several of the region's top clubs using the event as a competitive debut for their pre-elite gymnasts a year before they start the elite grades programme. 27 gymnasts took part on this age group. A number of the entrants train more than twice as many hours each week as the Academy girls at the present time and they therefore had a task on their hands to hold their own.
The TNAG girls all performed exceptionally well across the 4 pieces of apparatus and were a credit to themselves and the club. The girls' coach Helen Inglis expects this to be the start of some very successful competitive careers for some very talented and dedicated young gymnasts.
Emma Hill was TNAG's top scorer finishing in a very impressive 7th position overall with a total score of 45.7. Emma also received an excellent 12.2 for her bar routine which was the third best score on that piece. Grace Luckhurst scored 44.65 and placed 11th with a very consistent set of scores and she was just ahead of Jesse King-Tomlin in 12th with 44.45. Jesse deserves special mention for her beautifully performed floor routine (12.15). Next came Laura O'Leary Jones with 44.1 in 14th, again with a very high score on floor (12.1), followed by Miriam Lowe in 18th (43.3) and Abigail Ashford 23rd (41.95).
The girls and their colleagues in the EDS02 now have some very hard work to do before they make their full "official" competitive debuts early next year. Well done girls!
