Angel and Emily - Norfolk's Elite
09/03/2009
Angel Kenzitt and Emily Crowe passed their compulsory level 2 competition at Liverpool on Sunday 8th March meaning that they have both qualified as elite gymnasts.
The girls both knew that they faced a tough challenge in reaching the pass mark of 52.50 across the 4 main pieces of apparatus plus a testing range and conditioning set and it was a nerve racking event for gymnasts, coaches and parents alike waiting to see if they would make the grade. The girls started their event on range and conditioning which had a pass mark of it's own, 10.5. Angel put in an excellent routine here scoring 12.1, one of the highest of the day to get her competition off to a great start, and Emily despite wobbles, easily exceeded the pass mark with 11.3. The girls moved through the apparatus with Emily scoring particularly well on vault, with 11.525 and both girls getting through the difficult bar routine. Emily suffered a fall on beam but Angel was solid and hit all of her links. The girls finished their event on floor with two lovely routines, both of which seemed to be a little harshly marked. The final scores came in with Angel scoring 54.725 and Emily 53.575, both therefore exceeding the pass mark and officially qualifying as elite gymnasts - the first in Norfolk for several years.
The girls were presented with certificates marking their achievment and had photos taken with Britain's top gymnast Beth Tweddle. They are now eligible to enter the full British Championships in 2010 - which means their hard work has only just begun!
Congratulations girls - the whole club and county can be very proud of you. Go to the photo gallery to see the girls with their coach Sara-Jane (in the Competition section) and with Beth (Famous Faces).
