TNAG STARS SHINE BRIGHT AT REGIONALS
01/03/2009
The Norfolk Academy had 4 entrants at the regional compulsory levels 5,4 and 3 competition in Ipswich on Sunday 1st March and all four did themselves, and the Academy, proud. Starting off the competition for TNAG in the compulsory 5 contest was 7 year old Harmony Kenzitt, competing in her first ever regional event. The competition showed that the 2001 born crop of gymnasts in the region is another very strong generation with a high standard across the level. Harmony went cleanly through all of her routines to place a very impressive 7th overall, with particularly good scores on vault (12.2) and beam (12.0). In the second round of the competition 8 year old Bethany Harmer competed at compulsory level 4, Lucy Jarvis at compulsory 3 (in age) and Polina Polyakova at compulsory 3 (out of age). Bethany was also contesting her first regional competition and taking on girls with much more experience than herself in another exceptionally strong year group, but she rose to the challenge admirably. She had an excellent competition and looked a very classy and self assured performer as she also went cleanly through her exercises with only a minor wobble on range and conditioning. She posted scores above 12 on vault, bars and beam to total 59.35 placing 9th overall. Bethany easily surpassed the pass mark of 47.5 and will now represent TNAG at the national finals of the competition in Birmingham in May. Lucy and Polina were both in smaller groups of competitors yet still faced stiff competition in their bid for medals. Both showed classy and consistent routines with excellent presentation and, yet again, both went through their routines without any major errors. Lucy posted a personal best score of 57.825 to take the overall silver medal in the in age competition. Polina scored an excellent 59.5 to again, take silver overall for TNAG. Apparatus medals were also awarded across the two compulsory 3 age groups and the Norfolk Academy girls added to their medal haul here with Lucy picking up a bronze for her 11.9 on floor and Polina collecting silver for 11.95 on beam and bronze for her 11.85 on range and conditioning. Lucy will go forward as part of the East region’s team to the national finals in Birmingham in May. For Polina there is no national final but she now turns her attention to the difficult task of attacking the next grade up, compulsory level 2 which she will attempt to sit in November. Earlier in the weekend Summer-Jade Kenzitt represented the Academy in the regional heats of the National Club Grades. Summer competed at grade 6 and placed a creditable 5th place, meaning she will be reserve for the regional team at the national finals. She also picked up a silver medal for her beautiful floor routine. Head coach Sara-Jane Inglis said, “It was a very good weekend for the club which had strong representation across the levels. Our youngsters, Harmony and Bethany both showed very good potential in excellent fields and we have high hopes for them both for the future. Lucy and Polina both looked mature beyond their years in posting some excellent scores at the very testing compulsory level 3. It is great for the Academy to be holding its own in the region with some of the top and most well established clubs in the country. Good luck to Bethany and Lucy for their national finals!” Attention now turns to Angel Kenzitt and Emily Crowe who take their “elite grade” compulsory level 2 in Liverpool on 8th March where they can earn the much-coveted status of elite gymnasts and then represent the region at the British Schools Games in Newcastle the following weekend.
