Promising debut for TNAG at Bill Slater team championships
26/10/2008
PROMISING BILL SLATER DEBUT
The TNAG team of Sarah Kett, Chloe White, Summer-Jade Kenzitt, Emily Crowe, Polina Polyakova and Angel Kenzitt did the Academy proud at the Bill Slater national club team championships, held in Newcastle on 25th-26th October 2008.
As a new team entering for the first time, we were drawn in the very first round on Saturday, knowing that the stronger more experienced teams would follow later. The team followed Olympic order, starting their competition on the vault where a very strong sequence of scores was posted for a good set of Tsukaharas tucked and piked and we were able to carry 4 good scores in the mid to high 12s, with Emily’s 12.7 the high point to give a very good vault total. Bars was the real test with most of the teams struggling to get a high start value on this event. Chloe White scored a strong 8.7 which was our top score on this piece. TNAG had one of the highest start values as a team on beam, despite the team including several very young gymnasts and this bodes well for the future. Sarah Kett stuck her very tricky routine, and Summer showed her usual steady and classy performance. Angel and Emily competed their flick-layout series’ for the very first time. Emily was one of the few gymnasts to include a C value dismount which boosted her start value to 4.9, which few gymnasts over the whole event managed to surpass. She scored a strong 12.15 depsite a fall from the apparatus. The team finished their competition on floor where there were a few unexpected errors which perhaps cost us a place or two in the final standings. The high point on floor was Angel’s tidy and sparkling performance to score 11.3.
We lay second behind a very strong West Lothian team after the first round, and 3rd at the end of the first day, with only Sapphire going past us from the second round. Sunday saw the bigger and more highly ranked clubs perform but TNAG finished with a really impressive ranking of 11th overall. Individually, of the gymnasts to compete all 4 apparatus Emily Crowe placed 27th, Angel Kenzitt 32nd and Summer-Jade Kenzitt 46th. All 6 of the team members contributed to the team score and we have high hopes that we can improve on our ranking next year. Well done girls!
