Girls collect Regional honours

29/09/2008

Regional in age levels 4,3 and 2 and FIG challenge championships 28 September

TNAG had 3 gymnasts competing in the in age levels competition, and 2 in the FIG regional challenge, both held on 28 September at Ipswich.

In the FIG challenge Summer-Jade Kenzitt and Sarah Kett battled it out with gymnasts across the region and tested themselves under the tough full FIG code and thus a higher level at which they would normally compete. The 12-13 years category was the most hotly contested of the FIG event. Sarah Kett had a clean competition including sticking her very difficult beam exercise to place 5th overall and Summer-Jade put together a solid set of scores to place just ahead in 4th.

For Lucy Jarvis, Emily Crowe and Angel Kenzitt, the regional voluntary levels competition was potentially one of their most important of the year with eligibility for national finals being decided.

Lucy, aged 9, took part in the level 4 competition and was definitely one of the classiest competitors on show. Lucy had a very good competition, going cleanly through all of her routines to place 5th overall with a score of 45.45 and picking up bronze medals for her excellent vault (11.45) and floor routine (12.00). This means that Lucy has achieved the qualifying score of 44.00 to allow her to compete for TNAG at the national finals in Guildford in November, where she will also be reserve for the regional team.

Angel Kenzitt (9) and Emily Crowe (10) took part in the level 3 competition where they faced very tough competition in what is a year group of exceptionally talented gymnasts across the region. Angel made a fantastic start to the event, posting brilliant scores on floor, vault and bars but unfortunately suffered a fall on the beam. Even despite this she still managed to easily surpass the nationals qualifying score of 46 points, scoring 49.475 and placing 5th overall, so will compete at nationals as an individual and, like Lucy, also as reserve for the regional team. Angel was also well rewarded for her stunning performances on floor (12.65) and bars (12.00) picking up silver medals for both. Emily put together a very solid set of scores across the four pieces of apparatus including managing to hold her nerve through her very difficult beam routine in the final round. She scored a great total of 50.15 to place 3rd overall and pick up her first regional medal. Emily will thus travel to nationals in November as part of the east region team.

This was a very successful day for all of TNAG’s competitors, who were the only gymnasts from Norfolk taking part in this most prestigious of regional events. Not one of them dropped below 5th place across the day. These performances have well and truly put Norfolk on the map for gymnastics at regional level. Well done girls!
