Summer makes national FIG debut

10/06/2008

TNAG gymnast Summer-Jade Kenzitt competed in the national Challenge Cup for espoirs (gymnasts aged 12-13) in Gloucester on Sunday 8 June.

This was Summer's first competition on the full international FIG code of points which means that the rules and requirements were much tougher than in the levels system in which she has competed previously. Summer had a very solid competition without any major mistakes and an almost flaweless performance on the beam, to finish in 39th position overall.

Summer's coach Tracy Appleby said;

"We took out a number of the difficult moves which Summer had been working but which were not quite ready for competition and this meant that she had relatively low difficulty values which would keep her scores down. However, this was the right decision for her as she was performing routines well within her ability level and was able to perform without too much stress or pressure. She looked a very classy artistic performer and now we need to build the difficulty in so that she can climb up the rankings next year".

The competition season is only just beginning though for Summer and her teammates with the girls now entering the summer season of preparation for the voluntary levels competitions in the autumn.
