GREAT RESULTS FOR TNAG AT THE REGIONALS
02/03/2008
TNAG's competitive squad put on a great display over the last 2 weekends at Ipswich for the Regional Grades competitions.
Last weekend saw Regional Finals for the Club Grade events, with TNAG represented by Summer-Jade Kenzitt and Chloe White (Grade 2) and Polina Polyakova (Grade 4).
Polina's event had a massive field of around 40 gymnasts, and Polina was certainly amongst the top division of those and finished a creditable 12th. Given this was Polina's first ever Regional competition she can be very encouraged by this result.
The Grade 2 field, though fewer in number, was extremely strong in terms of quality. Chloe passed the Grade by over 4 marks, and Summer-Jade was amongst the very best of the entrants and did fantastically well to finish in 5th place. This result means that Summer-Jade will be the travelling reserve for the East Region's team for the National Finals in Birmingham (to be held in April).
Today saw the competition for those gymnasts taking the Elite Grades. Lucy Jarvis contested the Compulsory Grade 4 competition, whilst Angel Kenzitt and Emily Crowe competed at Compulsory Grade 3.
Lucy had an excellent competition, on her 9th birthday, going cleanly through all of her routines - including the dreaded range and conditioning - to comfortably pass the Grade and finish in a superb 4th position. Lucy has therefore qualified for the East Region's team, and will be the first TNAG gymnast to represent the Region at the National Finals.
The Compulsory Grade 3 field was exceptionally strong, with many of the nation's top gymnasts at this level participating in an extremely high quality event. Emily and Angel had the difficult task of starting the competition on range and conditioning, knowing that they had to score 10 points on this event in order to pass the Grade. Both girls were slightly wobbly but still managed to pass with ease. After that first piece, neither gymnast made any further mistakes of significance, both putting in a fantastic set of routines. Angel was amongst the top few scorers on the Bars, whereas Emily was the second highest scorer on Vault. Both girls managed to put in solid Beam performances where many of their rivals faltered, and rounded the day off with lively Floor performances. Overall, Angel scored a total of 58.675 (an improvement on her recent winning score at the Norfolk Championships and easily in excess of the pass mark of 50) to finish in 7th place. Angel will therefore be entitled to represent TNAG at the National Finals. Reversing the order from the Norfolk Championships, Emily finished in a stunning 5th place, scoring a total of 59.375. This result means that Emily is the reserve for the East Region's team at the National Finals, although (save for injury to one of the four team members) she will also compete for TNAG.
Sara-Jane Inglis, Head Coach of TNAG, commented "It is amazing that, so soon after opening our Academy, we already have a number of girls who are not only attending the Regionals and holding their own, but also fighting for the higher placings and the Regional teams. The Eastern Region is, without doubt, one of the strongest in the UK and were we based anywhere else these girls would be winning medals galore! As it is, for TNAG to be showing so competively against well established clubs, whose gymnasts have been training intensively for several years, is hugely encouraging. It is great to have a number of gymnasts competing at the Nationals, but we are particularly looking forward to the Voluntary competitions later in 2008 by which time we hope that we will be even stronger!"
