EMILY AND POLINA MIX WITH THE BEST

Emily Crowe and Polina Polyakova made history for the club once again when they competed at the British Championship apparatus finals at Guildford on Sunday 4th July.
The girls had qualified for the finals by virtue of their scores at the all around espoir championships in Gloucester last month. Emily had progressed to the floor final and Polina had qualified on beam. This time though the finals were held alongside the apparatus finals for junior and senior gymnasts, meaning the girls got to mix it with the top British gymnasts across the age groups, including Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan and Nicole Hibbert.
Emily was last up in the espoir floor final and competed her full twisting double back somersault, and the rest of her routine, extremely well. Emily was the only gymnast in the final to perform this very difficult "E" rated skill and one of only a handful to do so across the age groups. Emily scored 12.85 - an excellent score but one which kept her just outside the medals, finishing in fourth place behind some very sophisticated routines from girls a year older.
Polina had the difficult task of waiting until the very last final for her chance to perform on the beam. She had warmed up well but unfortunately fell on her layout somersault in the competition. However Polina had added difficulty to her routine from qualifying and competed her new elements and dismount very well. Although her score kept her down in eighth place on this occasion, Polina will have benefitted greatly from the experience of competing in this environment.
Emily and Polina now look forward to a more relaxed period before they prepare to add new moves and combinations, and debut new routines at the end of the year all ready to head for even greater success at next year's espoir championships and finals. These two gymnasts stand at the very top of the club as great examples for everyone within it.
