TNAG introduces the TigerTots Pre-School Gymnastics Programme

27/11/2007

The Norfolk Academy of Gymnastics and TigerTots UK have struck a deal for the provision of Pre-School Gymnastics classes at the Academy from January 2008.

The TigerTots scheme aims to provide fitness through fun and imagination and the programme already runs very successfully at Marriotts School of Gymnastics in Hertfordshire.

TigerTots classes at the Academy will run for children from age approximately 18 months to when they start school full time. The younger children will participate in the TigerCubs class where they are accompanied by a parent or carer throughout the session. At around 3 (although obviously the children all differ and so there is no set age at which a child moves up - some are ready earlier than others) the child can make a seamless transition to the independent Roaring Tigers class.

The sessions start  with a warm up dance and warm up activities, after which the children move on to work on several different pieces of the gymnastics equipment, adapted to be suitable for pre-school children such as the fast track trampoline strip, the bars, the beam and the tumble track.  To keep all of the children occupied all of the time, there are side station activities using hand apparatus such as bean bags, hoops and ropes for them to work on between turns on the apparatus. They finish off with a cool down activity.

Each term has a different theme - the themes include The Zoo, The Circus, Travel and Movement, Wild West, The Jungle and Creepy Crawlies. The activities for the session are based on the themes. So, the children will be doing donkey kicks on the floor and monkey swings on the bar in The Zoo term, horse and cart cartwheels in the Wild West term, dragon fly jumps on the trampoline strip during Creepy Crawlies term and Trapeze swings on the bars during The Circus term.

Children will be well rewarded for their work in the sessions with stickers given out to each child, and they will also have the chance to work towards certificates and badges in the TigerTots award schemes.

The pre-school TigerTots classes are run by Tracy Appleby, who is British Gymnastics qualified in pre-school teaching, with her team of assistants.

Session times are as follows:

TigerCubs : Tuesday at 2.00-2.45pm and Friday at 10.00-10.45am

Roaring Tigers : Tuesday at 1.00-2.00pm (PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE OF TIME) and Friday at 11.00-11.45am.
