POLINA JOINS THE ELITE

Polina Polyakova has joined the select club of elite gymnasts by successfully passing her compulsory level 2 grading at Aldershot on 21 November.
Polina only took her compulsory level 3 earlier this year and has worked very hard to be ready to take the compulsory level 2 "elite grade" at the first available opportunity thereafter.
Only seven gymnasts assembled for this annual second hosting of the elite grading for in age gymnasts only. Polina started her competition well lying in first place after vault and bars. Her bars was a particularly strong performance, achieving the best score of all of the competitors. However disaster struck for Polina on beam where she suffered two very uncharacteristic falls along with some broken combinations resulting in a very low score and a tough battle to reach the pass mark. Polina showed her fighting spirit with strong and accurate performances on floor and range and conditioning to just squeeze past the 52.50 pass mark.
Polina becomes the club's third elite gymnast and the third in the county and she will make her elite debut at the British Championships in 2010 in the espoir category.
Congratulations to Polina who has made staggering progress in her time at the Academy and who's work rate and determination are a brilliant example to many young gymnasts. She fully deserves all of her success.
