EXCELLENT RESULTS AT BILL SLATER
26/10/2009
BILL SLATER BRITISH CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Six of the Academy’s top gymnasts made the long journey north to represent their club in the Bill Slater British Club Team championships, held in Newcastle on 24th-25th October.
The team were drawn in the penultimate round, based on their ranking from last year when they placed an impressive 11th in their first ever outing at the prestigious event. They were determined to improve on that showing this time around.
The team put in an excellent all around performance with very few mistakes and well thought out routines to amass a total score of 171.70 which put them in 7th place overall, out of 16 teams.
All of the team members played their part in the success; Sarah Kett contributed with very strong vault and floor performances. Summer-Jade Kenzitt was solid and consistent and a very strong lead off gymnast on floor and beam. Bethany Harmer, still only eight years old, was one of the youngest gymnasts in the event and performed some every difficult work. Not all of it came off successfully this time around but having had the experience of competing those moves in such a big arena will serve her well for the future. Angel Kenzitt helped the team with very strong scores on her three pieces and was the team’s highest scorer on vault. Polina Polyakova performed new moves successfully for the first time on bars and beam and put together a good total of 42.35 which placed her 24th overall.
Particular mention goes to Emily Crowe, who had the pressure of anchoring the team on all four pieces of apparatus. She had some of the most difficult routines on show and performed them successfully, including her new dismounts on bars, beam and floor. Her floor routine was awarded the highest score of the day by some distance – 12.7 from a huge 4.8 difficulty score. Emily’s all around total of 46.05 put her top of the pile in the individual standings, beating the number one and two ranked gymnasts in her year group, Molly Taylor (Pipers Vale, 2nd) and Devon Anderson (Newcastle, 4th) to give herself a huge confidence boost ahead of her national finals in Guildford in two weeks time.
Well done to all of the girls for giving such a good account of themselves and the Academy at this important event.
